BCC's Mt Coot-tha Trailcare Program leads the way for action on the ground

Massive kudos to the team at Brisbane City Council who have worked so hard over the past 15 months to take the Mt Coot-tha Trailcare program from zero to the point where we see a well attended Ladies-only dig day and the culmination of a 2 day training course - on the hottest weekend we've seen in a very long time!

These events highlight the partnership that BCC has built with the community in recent times - with over 40 dig days in the last 12 months and more than 100 individual volunteers on the tools. Almost 25% of the sanctioned trail network at Gap Creek has been remediated by volunteers and we know that contractors are engaged in Flood Recovery works to repair much of the remaining trails (details below).

This is a far cry from where we all were 12 months ago, and the BORRA Committee wants to thanks the folks inside BCC, including Cr Tracy Davis and Cr Greg Adermann for following through on and supporting one of the actions in the Off-Road Cycling Strategy: Creating a dedicated Trailcare Program role and hiring Deana Nichols into it was a great move. Leveraging local talent from Blue Sky Trails for on the ground training was a smart way to kick start the new program. If the Off-Road Strategy was a 'road map', then we are definitely now on the road to a better place for mountain biking in Brisbane!

Finally thanks to all the volunteers from across the community - everyone who has helped in any way in the past few years, but especially to these dedicated two dozen that sweated it out and/or glowed on the weekend.
